Communicating with Parents

December 3, 2010

Developing relationships with parents demands a deliberate process that may vary from parent to parent. Parents want to know who  you are, what you value, and how you teach. Teachers want to know how parents can enrich classrooms and promote learning. Parents want to know how to contact you; what you will do to keep them informed of classroom activities; and the progress their child is making.

(Carpenter, L.L., Fontanini, J. J., & Neiman, L. V., 2010)

Are you making the most of all tools available to you to connect with parents? Today’s students and many parents are digital natives using a variety of technology tools to connect and communicate. Have you surveyed your parents to see how they want to commuunicate with you? Do you use email, text messages, websites, or blogs  (like this one) to keep your parents informed?

We will be presenting Electronically Connecting with Parents.
SLATE (School Leaders Advancing Technology in Education) Conference
