December – Not Just Holidays

December 2, 2011

December 1, 2011 marked the 56th anniversary of the day Rosa Parks decided to keep her seat on a bus in Montgomery, Alabama. Rosa Parks was arrested.

Parks, who died October 24, 2005, left a lasting legacy for all of us. After 56 years, there are many Americans who are still struggling for equality and civil liberties. Below are resources for activities, lessons, and units on this very important person and event from our history. The first link connects to last week’s post on Service Learning. Be sure to check out the Learning to Give website. The second link provides an excellent list of literature connected to Rosa Parks. These resources provide a fabulous opportunity to integrate social studies and reading language arts in your classroom.

Make it a good week.

Linda
