Ask Professor Kid

May 15, 2014

We did it! We are published!!!

As part of our recent work with middle schools we asked over 300 students about teachers and good teaching. Read about it in the April 2014 issue of AMLE magazine.

We were excited and our work was reaffirmed by their responses. We discovered that the kid language for engagement is fun and that students identify good teachers as nice teachers. In fact many of the ideas included on this blog and in our teacher ed classes, were specifically cited by our student experts.

Be Kind, Respectful, and Understanding

Good teachers “are fair, respectful, kind, and honest.” “Patient. Get along and talk with kids. Help needy kids.” “They say hi to you when they see you and they memorize your name.”

(Fontanini, Neiman & Carpenter, 2014 , p.25.)

It’s a good read and we highly recommend it!
