March 2 – Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss – Read Across America

February 29, 2012

Theodor Seuss Geisel (March 2, 1904 – September 24, 1991), the beloved author of countless classic children’s books, has a birthday coming…very soon. This year we celebrate his 108th birthday and all the wonderful books that have entertained both children and adults for years. One of our family favorites is Did I Ever Tell You How Lucky You Are? We have literally worn out two copies of this book.

This week schools will celebrate Read Across America Day in honor of Dr. Seuss. This event is sponsored by the National Education Association. The links below provide information, resources, lessons, and activities for your classroom. How will you celebrate this big day?

I have added the following useful links to our previous post on Literacy in the Classroom.

This week’s post is early! The authors of From Surviving to Thriving will be presenting Friday, March 2 (Dr. Seuss’s Birthday) at the National Association for Alternative Certification (NAAC) 22nd Annual Conference. Our session is Building Relationships: The Key to Successful Classroom Communities. Handouts and resources for our presentation will be posted on our Presentations Page following our presentation. If you are attending the conference be sure to stop by our session and say hello. We would love to meet you.
